The years of attempting to locate CIC Officer (1966-67) William (Bill) Heinz by his fellow shipmates, Jack Sprill, Bob Hancock and Don Roembke came to a tragic end with the discovery of Bill & Mary-Lee (wife) Heinz death in Eugene Oregon on September 12, 1970. Bill & Mary-Lee Heinz are buried in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland Oregon:
Heinz, William J, b. 02/18/1941, d. 09/12/1970, US Navy, LT(JG), Plot: T 0 797, bur. 09/18/1970
Heinz, Mary Lee, b. 10/20/1941, d. 09/12/1970, US Army Air Corps, SGT, Plot: T 0 797, bur. 09/18/1970

My father was George Cook and was on the Boyd from 53 to 56. I thought I would post to anyone that may have known him that he passed away February 4 2007 after a long battle with cancer. He is sadly missed every day by his wife and four daughters. |

I was just doing a search on my son, LCpl Joseph Boyd Spence, when I came upon this site. My son was KIA in Ar Rutbah, Iraq, Jan 26, 2005 in a helicopter crash. Pretty neat that there is a Navy Ship named USS Boyd who was named after Joseph Boyd. God Bless. |

Does anyone have any details about GMSC G. Dyer who served on BOYD in the 1966 - 67 period? Chief Dyer is not registered on this site. A friend, Jim Dyer, who lives near me in Hampstead, NC thinks he may be a relative of Chief Dyer. My recollection is that Chief Dyer was from Iowa. More important, he was a great Navy man and a role model for many. Thanks! See you in Seattle! |

Looking for anyone on the Boyd from 65-67 (BT3). Have a disability from exposure to asbestos. Has anyone experienced the same? The VA has helped tremendously.
Would like to help you out. |

Anyone know where Steve Thompson is? We were on the Boyd together when she was sold to the Turks. |
